School Year Opportunities
Club Leader: Through our Camp Fire Club program, Club Leaders meet on a regular basis, usually on a weekday evening at a school, community center, or church with their Club group for about an hour. Club members learn about themselves, the environment, their local and worldwide community, explore their creativity and their future. If you are looking to work with kids or gain experience with elementary aged kids, this is a great opportunity to learn classroom management, follow a lesson plan, and engage kids in learning. Email your volunteer application to Sarah@campfireusaia.org or fax it to 515-274-1502 Attn: Sarah.
Safe and Sure Teacher: Teaching a curriculum for Kindergarten students that focuses on safety at home, school, in their community and in public places. The program is in guest speaker format- the Safe and Sure teacher would visit each Kindergarten classroom in a school (about 3-4 classrooms per school) for about 30 minutes, do a warm up or get-to-know-you activity, tell a story about safety and then the class would have a group discussion about what they're learning. Many times the class will be up moving around with Safe and Sure teacher, do an activity and send the kids home with a family activity or worksheet to encourage the implementation of the safety they've learned.
